Overview
While there is a great deal of conversation in schools about formative assessment, it is relatively rare to see it implemented in classrooms in ways that reflect its intent or its potential to be a game changer for teaching and learning. This 4-part webinar will explore formative assessment as a powerful tool that, when used correctly, enhances student achievement, professionalizes teachers, improves instruction, and builds student agency. We’ll examine formative assessment as a process and way of thinking about teaching and learning and will also look at many examples of teachers’ approaches to formative assessment in their classrooms. We’ll also explore why and how formative assessment is tightly bound to differentiation.

Agenda:
This four-session webinar series addresses the following topics:

Session 1: What is Effective Formative Assessment and why Does it Matter so Much?

Session 2: How do we Choose Formative Assessment Strategies?

Session 3: How Does Formative Assessment Information Help us Plan (Better) Instruction?

Session 4: How Can we Use Formative Assessment to Help Students Develop Agency as Learners?

Sessions will include video of classrooms in which formative assessment is an enhancement to teaching and learning, not a distraction from those outcomes. Each session will also include opportunities to share ideas with other educators and to exchange ideas with the presenter and will also provide teacher-friendly articles for current and future use.
Potential Audience:
K-12 teachers, university teacher educators, curriculum coordinators, instructional specialists, teacher leaders, instructional coaches, staff developers, and school leaders who want to learn along with their teachers.
