Overview
Today’s International School leaders are navigating unprecedented complexity: shifting expectations, rapid social change, reduced resourcing and increasing uncertainty. Traditional hierarchical models of leadership are no longer enough; what’s needed is a shift toward more adaptive, collective, and networked ways of leading.

In this executive weekend retreat, Dr Chris Jansen, a founding Director and Senior Consultant of Leadership Lab and Leadership Lab Global, will explore how Heads of School, Principals and other senior leaders can broaden their “leadership bandwidth” to thrive in challenging environments.

Drawing on insights from complexity theory, adaptive leadership, systems thinking and case studies of collaborative leadership in international schools, Chris will equip leaders to gain competence and confidence to;
  • shift from traditional hierarchical approaches to more networked, collaborative models.
  • play a crucial role in empowering colleagues to collaborate and utilise their collective strengths to enhance student learning.
  • develop a positive and sustainable organisational culture.
  • Design and implement practical tools to foster self-organisation, distribute power, and build resilient, connected teams and communities.
  • Lead with clarity and confidence in complexity, and with strategies to help their organisations not just survive—but thrive—in uncertain times.
In this Retreat, we’ll explore the benefits and challenges of both hierarchical and collaborative leadership approaches. We’ll focus on the judgment skills leaders need to effectively navigate the tension between these two polarities, enabling them to lead effectively in various situations. We will investigate how leaders can visualise the positive team cultures they want to create. We will introduce practical leadership tools that leaders can apply to foster an environment where every team member can thrive and contribute their strengths to the team’s success.

Potential Audience:
Heads of School, Principals and other senior leaders.
