Please join Kathy Collins for a series of study sessions about increasing the effectiveness of three vital literacy components that complement and support children’s reading development. In each session, Kathy will share ideas about ways to ‘level-up’ the work and play within a particular literacy component, and she’ll provide actionable ideas for teachers to try within their own classrooms, whether they are teaching in remote, live, or hybrid contexts. These sessions will be considerate of readers of all abilities and children with a variety of English language comfort and expertise. In each session, these will be questions that guide the work:
  • How does this component of a comprehensive approach to reading instruction support children’s reading of texts, thinking about texts, and talking about texts?
  • How can this component fit into my day and my week, and how do I align it with my instructional plans and units of study?
  • How can I differentiate this work for my kids, in my style, in my school, in this year?
These sessions will be structured in a think tank style rather than a lecture presentation, so it’s Kathy’s hope that participants will be willing to try things and then share the challenges and beauty of their work with children with the think tank cohort.
