How can we create a living breathing curriculum responsive to the learners in our care? How can support a culture of collaboration between teachers to develop a pathway of engaging learning experiences both vertically and across the school year? Mapping is curricular collaboration. Mapping is learning architecture as a faculty lays out and reviews curriculum both vertically and across the school year. By developing timely and engaging maps teachers discuss best practices, share resources and improve the quality of learning experiences across a school K-12. Parents benefit when they are aware of specific learning targets for their children. Students are connected to their learning experiences over time when there is a constant flow of knowledge from term to term and year to year. Being able to capture assessments, lesson plans, and best practices within one place can improve teachers instruction. Our sessions will show how you can keep curriculum alive and vibrant with ongoing review and timely entries into our units and lesson plans.

23rd September 2024 - Launching the Mapping Process to Engage Learners

Upgrade assessments and to reflect modern literacies.
Focus on strategies for setting up work sessions to draft maps.

30th September 2024 - Setting up Gap Analysis and Mapping Reviews

Examine approach to set up gap analysis and mapping reviews.
Organize and conduct vertical reviews for gap analysis.
Organize and conduct cross-grade level reviews for gap analysis.
Growing a living breathing modern curriculum map.
Determine what to cut, keep and create each year in the curriculum.
Engaging learners in reviewing maps.
Communicating curriculum with families.
Preparing new teachers for mapping.

Dr. Jacobs has engaged in projects with a wide array of both national and international organizations and companies such as ASCD, NAESP, Learning Forward, the European Council of International Schools, the Near East School Association, the College Board, ADK International Sino-Canadian Schools in China, New Zealand’s Learning Network, the Kennedy Center, the Peace Corps World Wise Schools, Carnegie Hall, Australia ISV, the United Nations Council on Teaching about the UN, the Near East School Association, the International Baccalaureate, the NY State Higher Education Commission, the CCSSO workgroup on Global Competencies, AASA, Newsela, Amazon Studios, and the Waterford Institute. The author of thirteen books including the best-selling Bold Moves for Schools:How We Create Remarkable Learning Environments (ASCD) with co-author, Marie Alcock.
