How can you ensure that your students’ work is real and relevant for them? What does an authentic assessment look like? How can you move your students' assessment from drill, practice and rehearsals to genuine real-world demonstrations of learning? Join us on this one-day upgrading project workshop!

Dr. Jacobs will guide us through examining the four conditions for authenticity. You will have the opportunity to convert an existing assessment into a dynamic and engaging project. She will provide strategies to partner with your students as agents in the design of these real-world applications. Based on her global experience, extensive writing and fascination with ways to modernize learning environments, the session promises to be timely and stimulating.

Student engagement skyrockets when learning opportunities are connected with issues that directly affect student’s lives. We will consider the recent surge in interest in schools with phenomena-based learning and strategies to design learning experiences collaboratively with learners to dig into emergent topics, problems and themes. We will underscore the notion that quest-based learning is a critical life skill at every age from primary through graduation. Dr. Jacobs will share specific steps to support the development of independent self-navigating students.

Bring in an existing course or curriculum project and we will work on upgrading it for engagement. If you choose, you can imagine a new concept to realize in your classroom.
