| Overview: | |||||||||
| Learning experiences are what bring a Concept-Based Literary classroom to life. Teaching to a conceptual level of understanding does not mean that all your “old” literacy learning experiences are no longer relevant or valued. Learn how to weave together current literacy practices with inductive inquiry to deliberately leverage students’ conceptual understanding of what it takes to be a capable reader, writer, viewer, speaker, listener, presenter, and researcher. In this hands-on inquiry based workshop, participants will experience Concept-Based Literacy in action while also learning effective tools for designing learning experiences that cultivate deep conceptual understanding and transfer. This includes guided time to design a Concept-Based lesson to be used in your own classroom. This workshop is for teachers who have previous experience with Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction and who are ready to take their teaching to the next level. |

| From experiencing a Concept-Based literacy lesson first hand, to designing a lesson for your own classroom, this hands-on inquiry based workshop engages teachers in two days filled with practical strategies, ideas, and tips for working with concepts in a literacy classroom. Teachers will leave with a lesson in hand and a toolbox full of strategies to bring Concept-Based Literacy instruction to life. | |||||||||

| TIFFANEE M. BROWN | |||||||||
| Tiffanee M. Brown is an experienced Concept-Based educator and a teacher-leader in her school district. As a Dr. H. Lynn Erickson and Dr. Lois A. Lanning Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction Presenter and Trainer, she facilitates professional learning, collaborates with districts at both the regional and international levels, and serves as a thought-partner for teachers around the world. Holding National Board Certification in English language arts and a MS in Special Education, Tiffanee is an endorsed literacy and special education teacher with a deep understanding of what it takes to bring Concept-Based learning to life in the classroom. Through her current position as an Instructional Design Consultant Teacher on the Teaching and Learning Team for a school district is Washington State, Tiffanee leads the development of the district's new Concept-Based Curriculum in English language arts, science and social studies, supports K-12 learning design and literacy across the district, and she facilitates the new teacher induction program. Tiffanee is the coauthor of, with Dr. Lois A. Lanning,Concept-Based Literacy Lessons: Designing Learning That Ignites Understanding and Transfer (2019). She has contributed classroom examples and resources for several recent books published by Corwin Press including, Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction for the Thinking Classroom, 2nd Edition (Erickson, Lanning, and French, 2017), Concept-Based Inquiry in Action (Marshall and French, 2018) and Measuring Human Return (McEachen and Kane, 2018). |
