Overview:
Schools are beginning to transition back into the traditional classroom setting, reconnecting with students with a new appreciation for the role of teachers, schools and education within our global society after weeks or months of remote learning. During this time, teachers and students have been creative and courageous in rapidly learning and applying a new range of skills and experiences to use technology as a medium and a tool for teaching and learning.

While this transition represents yet another period of uncertainty, we as teachers nevertheless have a pressing decision to make. Do we settle back into the classroom, and return to our familiar routines, systems and behaviors? Or do we embrace the growth and new learning we have acquired and work to reimagine what it means to teach and learn with and through technology?

In this four week, twelve hour online course, Katierose Deos and Sarah Gilmore, authors of ‘Integrating Technology: A School-Wide Framework to Enhance Learning’, will guide and support you to build from your current understanding of the role of technology as a tool to enhance learning and teaching through a balance of reading and video materials, asynchronous tasks, and personalised support that prepare you for four weekly live, collaborative group video sessions. You will explore your past and current beliefs about technology in your teaching, and extend and challenge your approaches to teaching with, through and about technology. By the end of the course, you will have reviewed and refined a unit of study of your choice with support through discussion and collaboration, giving you an actionable starting point for enhanced technology integration in your teaching.

Guiding questions:
  • What is, or should be, technology’s purpose and role in learning and teaching?
  • What effects does mindset have on how we teach with technology, and how can we work to develop a positive technology mindset?
  • How can we sustainably plan for and scaffold purposeful learning experiences with technology?
  • What does it mean to teach with, about and through technology across the curriculum?
  • How can we use the opportunities technology tools allow us, to address the challenges we and our students face in communicating, collaborating and constructing understanding?
