Overview: |
Leading educational institutions around the world are increasingly incorporating interdisciplinary education in their mission statements. They recognize, that preparing our youth to engage the most complex issues shaping life on the planet requires that we teach them to think beyond disciplinary boundaries. Indeed it requires that we become able to integrate knowledge and modes of thinking from two or more disciplines to create products, explain phenomena, solve problems, and raise new questions in what that would have been unlikely through dingle disciplinary means. In their efforts to advance quality interdisciplinary education, practitioners ask: What constitutes quality interdisciplinary learning and what does it look like in students' work? How can it be taught and assessed well? How do teachers become better at teaching and collaborating across disciplines?
