Overview:
This workshop is designed to facilitate schools and educators to meet the key challenges in current practiceand to prepare a shift to a thinking classroom in world language for 21st century.

The approach for 21st century world language programme is based on Dr. Lucy Hoi Yin Wong’s action research. This workshop mainly shares practical strategies and tools on practice, such as how to design effective texts, how world language integrate with other themes, how to implement inquiry, how to draw concepts and write generalizations in world language, how to meet the needs of every students with different language profile and different abilities, how technology can enhance learning in world language in a blended learning model. Amount ofextensive reading materials written by Dr. Lucy Hoi Yin Wong will be shared with participants.

Participants will have an access to the resources as a member of learning community along their way to shift their world language classrooms to a thinking classroom for 21st century. Participants will have opportunities to plan and practice collaboratively within each module.

This workshop is suitable for all world language educators, includes curriculum leaders.

All participants will be issued with a link to the course that will not be shareable with others. Participants will agree to use the video and sound function to enable full participation. Participants will log in by an individual, not as a group. The workshop will not be recorded.

In the interest of interactivity and deeper learning, there will be a limit of 35 people per workshop.
 
Agenda:
Day 1: Module 1 - Reach All Learners

What are the key components of k-12 world language programme for 21st century? What is the key approach based on students proficiency level? How the thinking classroom in world languagelooks like? How to reach all learners?

Participants will work collaboratively to do a curriculum mapping, analyse sample students’ language profiles and set goals for students with different language profiles and abilities.
Day 2: Module 2 - Effective Texts and Context

What are the key rules in designing basic texts, including how to integrate different themes in different school settings? How to design extensive reading materials?

Participants will work collaboratively to create texts and reading materials.
Day 3: Module 3 - Inquiry and Concept

How to draw concepts and write generalizations in world language? How inquiry looks like in world language classroom?

Participants will work collaboratively to draw concepts and write generalizations.
Day 4: Module 4 - Effective Thinking Classroom in World Language

What is the guiding principles of effective teaching in world languages for 21st century?

How conference with students in world language looks like? What is the main effective techniques in language acquisition? How technology can assist world language teaching and learning?
 
Dr. Lucy Hoi Yin Wong
Dr. Lucy Hoi Yin Wong, Ph.D., is a certified Dr H. Lynn Erickson and Dr Lois A. Lanning Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction Trainer and Presenter, a teacher, an author and an action research coordinator. Before transitioning to her current position, she taught as a PYP bilingual classroom teacher. Lucy currently facilitates the development of Concept-Based Curriculum and Instruction, supports K-12 literacy across the schools, and assists with the teacher induction and mentoring program.

本工作坊会与参与者分享基于调研成果的策略及实例,并分享大量讲者设计的文字内容。参与者将参与探讨,深入理解,并在工作坊进行实践。

所有参与者需同意使用视频和音频全程参与学习。所有参与者以个人形式登入平台。工作坊将不设录影。

工作坊限定35个名额。
 
学习日程:
第一天. 第一节 21世纪世界语学习

本环节探讨21世纪世界语课程的要素,了解学习者的语言学习背景,设计满足不同学习者学习需求的课程及教学方法。参与者将参与设计课程框架,分析学生语言学习背景及特征,制定k-12 教学单元题目及教学方向。
第二天. 第二节教学内容的设置

本环节探讨如何设计教学内容,尤其是文字内容,如何将话题或主题融入文字内容中,如何设计 拓展阅读文字内容。参与者将参与设计教学中需要使用的文章及阅读文章。
第三天. 第三节探究与概念

本环节探讨世界语中重要的概念及如何写中心思想,并简单分享如何使用探究循环及策略完成单元探究计划。参与者将参与制定部分年级的中心思想的定制。
第四天. 第四节有效的教学

本环节探讨有效教学的原则?语言习得的有效教学策略及教学环节的设置。

哪些活动适合小组或一对一教学?哪些环节可以使用科技协助教学?

通过四个环节的学习,参与者可以根据学生语言学习背景设计教学内容,设计教材以外所需要的文字内容及设计教学计划及教学环节。
