Overview:
Experience each of the five stages of a design thinking inquiry process and how writing can play a pivotal role in developing thinking and understanding at each stage. We’ll explore how to co-create opportunities for students to use writing to define problems, cultivate sensemaking, strengthen critical thinking skills, and develop empathy for those facing challenges in our world.
Agenda:
Session 1 - What is the design thinking inquiry process? How might the qualities of writing and the writing process intersect with the design process.

Session 2 - What are some ways to identify which curricular outcomes are essential? How are they enhanced through writing?

Session 3 - What are the steps to connect curriculum to inquiry and purpose? What are some grade-appropriate techniques for students as (researchers)

Session 4 - What are some ways we can help students create and publish passion projects that raise community stakeholder awareness?

During the last part of each session, attendees will create a brief task to practice with 2-3 case study students and bring back evidence (student work, photo, video) of learning to share with colleagues at the start of the next class.
Potential Audience:
K-8 educators, curriculum supervisors, teacher leaders, and teacher trainers.
