Overview:
This course will take a deep dive into the design of blended learning, We will look at how it can be used effectively for both remote and face to face learning. Building on the ideas of Understanding By Design, we will learn to craft learning experiences that employ the power of digital pedagogies. We will learn to build blended, student-facing HyperDocs - which are complete lessons designed to provide students agency over their learning by inspiring curiosity and inquiry. By the end of the course, participants will understand how to effectively shift learning to both on tech and off tech experiences that allow for more student centered and engaging teaching and learning experiences. This course will have both synchronous and asynchronous coursework.

The Course:
Module 1
During module one, we will look at blended learning to truly understand the concept and dig into the digital pedagogies that support and empower it. We will examine some of the cognitive learning theories that support this student-centered approach. Educators will begin to understand how the design process plays an important role in these experiences
Module 2
In this module, we will take a critical look at a HyperDoc to understand what it is and what it is not. We will discover how this blended learning experience is more than a doc with links and requires the full lesson design process. Participants will experience learning in a blended learning HyperDoc, deconstructing it along the way. From there, we will curate a list of some great examples to better analyze how and why these can empower learning.
Module 3
In this module, we will begin to craft the lesson design that will become a future hyperdoc. Using essential questions and success criteria, we will begin to craft an actual lesson critically analyzing the flow of learning in our new blended experience and looking at ways to both improve our own creations but borrow from the genius of other participants.
Module 4
Finally, we will look at the digital tools that support this type of learning and create and embed powerful checks for understanding that go beyond multiple choice questions. We learn how to think about and build meaningful demonstration and transfer opportunities so that each blended learning experience has the full cycle of learning embedded throughout.
