MID-LEVEL LEADERSHIP OUTCOMES:
DAY 1: SHIFTING THE CULTURE

Instructional leaders will focus on relationship building through the skills of:
  • creating a psychologically safe environment
  • designing trust and collaboration structures
  • fostering empathy and collegiality
  • diagnosing and supporting high-functioning teams
  • redirecting silos to interconnectedness among the faculty

DAY 2: MID-LEVEL LEADER AS INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER

Mid-level leaders will focus on building instructional capacity through the skills of:
  • analyzing the role learning targets play in planning and classroom clarity
  • expanding the role of formative assessment and evidence of student learning and how they correlate with learning targets
  • connecting the role of criteria for success and rubrics to support learning targets
  • defining a “No Secrets” classroom and a “No Secrets” school and how to create them
  • modeling the four types of feedback which correlate with increased student achievement data

DAY 3: PROMOTING THE USE OF PROFESSIONAL GROWTH SYSTEMS, ASSESSMENTS AND DATA FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT

Mid-level leaders will focus on building professional capacity within themselves and their colleagues through the skills of:
  • clarifying what expert instruction looks like
  • expanding your repertoire of intentional language and questioning strategies to foster reflection
  • raising your emotional intelligence and the emotional intelligence of your colleagues
  • designing professional growth systems to foster psychologically safe feedback and reflection
  • facilitating the collection, analysis, and use of classroom- and school-based data to identify instructional targets
  • analyzing the data of your school to promote changes in instructional practice or organizational structures to improve student learning.

DAY 4: NAVIGATING THE COMPLEXITIES OF HUMAN DYNAMICS

Mid-level leaders will focus on situational complexities through the skills of:
  • assisting people through the change process
  • identifying the obstacles to having difficult conversations, and proactively planning for them
  • crafting data driven questions that minimize defensive behavior and focus on reflective practice
  • dealing with resistant and passive aggressive behavior
  • expanding your conferencing skill techniques
  • designing an action plan that will move your school closer to your vision of instructional excellence
DR. FRAN PROLMAN
The founder, president and senior consultant of The Learning Collaborative, Fran Prolman is an internationally recognized teacher, administrator, author, consultant and keynote speaker. She is known for her depth of knowledge, dynamism, energy, practical application and proven track record of results.

Fran earned her Doctorate in Teacher Training, International Education and Organizational Development from George Washington University and a Master's degree in Educational Administration and Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a two-time Fulbright Scholar in both India and Israel, and has presented numerous papers, workshops and keynote speeches nationally and internationally.

Fran brings 30 years of experience providing multifaceted work with organizations and school systems throughout the United States and the world. She was a member of the first Understanding by Design trainer cadre for ASCD designing curriculum training throughout the United States, a faculty member for ASCD and a senior consultant at Research for Better Teaching training trainers and educating thousands of administrators and teachers in effective learning practice. Fran focuses on building human capacity through a variety of avenues. She facilitates leadership retreats for teachers, administrators, school boards and executives; delivers organization-wide keynote speeches and workshops, coaches to build highly functional teams; assists organizations and teams in the appropriate use of data, designs professional growth and evaluation systems and brings insight to the change process.
