OVERVIEW:
“Preparing students to be balanced individuals, independent learners, and global citizens . . .”

“To make a positive impact on our world . . .”

“Fostering meaningful participation and service . . .”

Are these phrases recognizable? Many, if not most, international schools include similar language in mission and/or vision statements. What does this mean in the daily life of a student and of a school? How do we move towards creating a sustainable culture of service that has value and purpose for all stakeholders and leads to the outcomes we describe?

Together, let’s identify essential elements for creating a recognizable and viable approach to service. What could such a culture or ethos of service look like, and sound like, and who would be involved? How can service move intentionally to a central necessary component that connects with other key school initiatives and priorities?

Being involved in meaningful service adds vitality to why we gather in this place called school. The time is now for taking big steps to engage students in service that changes them as they leave their mark on the world.
